Save the Date: HLB Research Facility Ribbon-Cutting
September 26, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join Citrus Research Board, California Citrus Research Foundation, California Citrus Mutual and the University of California, Riverside to celebrate the newly built Biosecurity Level 3 (BSL-3) Lab on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon in Riverside. A ribbon-cutting and press conference will be held at 10 a.m. followed by a citrus industry celebratory luncheon at noon.
The BSL-3 Lab is the only research facility in California that is citrus-specific and focuses on the Asian citrus psyllid and Huanglongbing (HLB). Research conducted at the lab will focus on California priorities including early detection technologies, development of bacteria resistant root stock, other prevention tools and more.
The creation of the California Citrus Research Foundation and the industry’s $8 million investment into this cutting-edge facility will attract leading researchers from around the country to work on immediate and long-term solutions to HLB. The location of this facility in the midst of both California’s citrus industry and the increasing urban HLB detections will be beneficial for the cutting edge-research expected to transpire.
