Area-Wide Treatment Update in San Diego County/Temecula

Southern California

To maximize the impact of Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) treatments in commercial groves and prevent the spread of Huanglongbing (HLB), the ACP/HLB Task Force in San Diego County has established winter area-wide treatment dates.

San Diego County Winter Area-Wide Treatment Dates

  • San Diego County, west of the deserts, and Temecula West: Feb. 1 – Feb. 14, 2019

Coordinated area-wide ACP treatments are recommended as part of the overall effort to prevent the spread of HLB to commercial groves. The University of California recommends applying treatments in late winter to kill overwintering adults and to protect spring flush. Recommended ACP-effective insecticides can be found at ucanr.edu/sites/ACP/.

Area-wide management is a coordinated treatment strategy where growers in a specific area collaborate on the timing of their treatment efforts to maximize the impact on psyllid populations in areas where the psyllid has become established. This process has been effectively implemented in Florida to help manage psyllid populations and here in California to manage the glassy-winged sharpshooter. By working together, we can save our citrus trees from this deadly disease.

Send a copy of the Pesticide Use Report for the treatment of citrus to the CPCD District office to SDCPCD@gmail.com AND to the San Diego County Agricultural Commissioner via CalAgPermits online reporting system. Submitting your use reports early helps officials tally reimbursements and ensure area-wide treatment effectiveness.
