Asian Citrus Psyllid Detections in Visalia

San Joaquin Valley

Northern Tulare County citrus growers should be on alert due to an Asian citrus psyllid breeding population, which includes adult psyllids and nymphs, that has been discovered at four residential properties in Visalia. This is the first detection of a breeding population in Tulare County this year.

The detections were found north of Houston Avenue and west of Highway 63. All four properties have already been treated by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and the department will be issuing a notice of treatment for properties within 400 meters of the detection sites.

There are no commercial citrus groves within a mile of the residential detections; however it’s critical that all growers stay vigilant for signs of the pest, inspect their trees regularly and follow treatment recommendations.
