Kern County Area-Wide Spring Treatment Schedule and Guidelines

San Joaquin Valley

To protect commercial citrus from Huanglongbing (HLB), it is critical to keep Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) populations in groves as low as possible. While there has been a significant amount of monitoring and preventative ACP treatment in Kern County, the San Joaquin Valley ACP/HLB Area-Wide Task Force recommends that all commercial citrus orchards east and south of Bakersfield be treated with an ACP-effective insecticide sometime within the next two to three weeks.

Kern County Post Petal Fall Treatment – Treatment Guidelines for Commercial Citrus

  • Treat ALL citrus blocks located east and south of Bakersfield, including non-bearing trees and blocks not normally treated at this time.
  • Use an ACP-effective insecticide sometime within the three weeks following April 15, 2018. For a list of ACP-effective insecticides, please reference this list provided from the University of California.
  • Treat the borders of blocks first as ACP tend to initially populate these areas. As a result, ACP will be driven toward the center of the block, where there should also be treatment, instead of away from the block and into surrounding areas.
  • Submit your Pesticide Use Report for this application as soon as possible.
