Citrus Showcase Seminar: ACP Management Strategies

Statewide

California Citrus Mutual will host its annual Citrus Showcase on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Visalia Convention Center. The event is free to attend and will feature seminars that address issues the citrus industry is facing, including Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) management.

Dr. Beth Grafton-Cardwell, integrated pest management specialist and research entomologist at the University of California, will host an afternoon seminar sponsored by Citrus Research Board on the latest available strategies for managing ACP populations in orchards. The seminar will begin at 2:30 p.m.

For several years, Grafton-Cardwell has been studying ACP management in parts of Southern California. These studies include evaluating insecticides and conducting field trials to determine the residual impact of conventional and organic insecticides.

Attendees of the seminar will learn about Grafton-Cardwell’s findings and how these findings can be used to effectively manage ACP in commercial groves. She will also discuss new tactics that can be added to the grower toolbox to improve ACP management programs, like border treatments, barriers preventing psyllid flight into groves and biocontrol releases in residential areas.

One hour of “Other” Continuing Education Units have been applied for and is pending approval by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.
