Coordinated ACP Treatment for Commercial Citrus in Parts of Kern County
To protect commercial citrus groves in the fight against the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) and the disease it can spread, Huanglongbing (HLB), the San Joaquin Valley ACP/HLB Area-Wide Task Force is recommending that a coordinated treatment be applied in all commercial citrus groves east and south of Bakersfield, including young, non-bearing trees, in late summer/early fall to help mitigate the historical increase during this season of ACP populations.
Treatments should occur mid-August through mid-September to prevent ACP populations from multiplying on fall foliar flush. Growers are encouraged to actively communicate with their local pest control district, pest management area or grower liaison and participate in this coordinated treatment.
For more information on ACP treatments and effective materials, see the University of California’s IPM Pest Management Guidelines for Asian Citrus Psyllid.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this coordinated effort, please contact Kern County Grower Liaison Judy Zaninovich at jsleslie@msn.com.
By participating in this late summer/early fall treatment, Kern County can greatly reduce the number of psyllids in the area, and thus reduce the risk of HLB being transmitted to commercial citrus. Thank you for your efforts.
